Å tilrettelegge for en bedre opplevelse av praksisstart for sykepleierstudenter ved OsloMet
- The Bachelor of Nursing at OsloMet is the largest nursing education in Norway with approximately 2400 students. During the three year-period the students spend about half the time in practical training. Through our research we have found considerable variations regarding the levels of satisfaction of the practical trainingperiods. The onboarding process of practical training could make or break the experience and learning for the remainder of the period. Furthermore, there is little to no systematic communication between the institution of practice and the student beforehand. During our research we found it beneficiary to establish a relation between the institution and student as early as possible, to make the student feel more at ease the first day. Therefore, the project focuses on how to create a better experience of the onboarding situation in practical training for the students. We have done this by working with communication and building relations both between students and with the institution. A part of this is to clearly communicate what’s expected from everyone involved, give the students responsibility for their own learning, as well as activating learning by giving the third-year students the opportunity to act as guidance counselors for the first-year students. By using systems oriented design and service design we were able to map out and get an understanding of this complex system, and at the same time work actively to understand the human needs in and around the system to understand the real needs of the involved.
